Lessons From Trauma Surgery and Fishing with Dr. John Fildes | The Academy

In this episode, we are talking to Dr. John Fildes, an internationally known trauma surgeon, researcher, educator and administrator in the fields of medicine and medical education.
Dr. Fildes has practiced in Nevada since 1996. He was the inaugural chair of surgery and former associate dean for external affairs for the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. He also served as interim dean during an important transition period for the school.

As medical director of University Medical Center's Trauma Center, he was front and center during the response to the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas that killed 60 people and wounded more than 400 others. The coordinated medical response to the shooting became a model for mass casualty incidents. Hospital groups nationwide have called upon Dr. Fildes to share his expertise and talk about lessons learned. The Mayor of Las Vegas declared May 12th: Dr. John Fildes Day in the city of Las Vegas.

Dr. Fildes currently serves as emeritus professor of surgery for the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. In this episode, he shares his life lessons...from the operating room, to the fishing boat.
